I assume you want to come in from the east. Not necessary to go down into the MFKings and come up that mess of bushwhacking. You are stuck with that if you come in from the south (Cedar Grove).

You can instead come in from South Lake, go over Black Giant Pass, then down to Chasm Lake, down to Enchanted Gorge, cross, and THEN up to Tunemah Lake or Peak. I think that is a better and more scenic route anyway. Or in over Lemark Col, into Ionian Basin over ?Wanda? pass and drop to Chasm Lake. I did Chasm to Enchanted Gorge /Goddard confluence. (Arnot's book describes this route). Later season you should be able to cross then up to Tunemah Lake.

Another question is once you get up to Tunemah Lake or Peak, how are you going to get back to your starting trailhead?

That was the easy part, just lots of ledges, ramps and route finding. It went pretty fast. The hard part was descending Goddard Ck. downtstream of Enchanted Gorge to the MFK. Insanely brushy, rattlesnake-infested thrashing. You will be going the right direction
Thanks... good to know. Yip, no all about the rattlesnakes of the Middle Fork.

Thanks Daisy! Yes, coming from the East side. I will either do point to point and hire a shuttle, or backtrack along the JMT/PCT. I may go out Lamarck if I do the shuttle. Black Giant Pass is a backup plan of sorts. I'd like to see Ladder Lake and The Citadel. I'm looking in Arnot's book now. Lots of helpful details.
