Thanks for the report! I enjoyed following along.
And echoing others, I appreciate that you were able to take this trip with your son. I began backpacking with my dad around 17-18, and we did at least one trip per year for most of the next 18 years. My dad has had some serious health issues crop up in the past year and his backpacking days may now be over, but I'll cherish the memories we made together during these trips for the rest of my life. I hope you and your son do as well.

Thanks for the kind words, everybody. I'm hopeful that my son and I will continue to backpack, but I'm realistic that he might just not have the opportunity or his priorities might change. But we should at least be able to do some shorter trips until I eventually age out.
Bishop_Bob: Now you tell me!
Harlen: You're being way too generous with your praise, but I also like that particular photo. And I like how your house is decorated!

"Cross-country travel is so much more enjoyable when you have no time pressure." That photo of the ominous thunderstorm over Mather Pass is great, but brings back memories of when I went over Cirque, Potluck and Knapsack. I felt like that whole trip was racing the sky to get off a pass and set up camp.
Thanks for the great report

Yes, it can happen. I was pinned down for 3 sleet and snow filled days on a September trip on terrapin and son 's route. [I was camped by Barrett Lakes.] Then I scurried down in slighty lighter storm weather to reach Palisade Lakes, and got 2 more snowstormy days. I'm glad that you guys snuck past the storm terrapin.
p.s. We too really love that stormy sky photograph.
