p.s. Back in 2005-6, we traveled all around the Swiss and French Alps on bikes with our young boys (4 and 6 yrs.) for pennies to your dollars ($100.00 per day?!). Our secret was biking around, shopping in markets, and free camping in the forests, and mountains. It is frowned upon in parts of Switzerland, but I don't believe it is actually illegal; it's just that they want to promote the use of mountain huts. The times we asked where we could camp, people were friendly, and just pointed us toward the roadside forest. I suppose sometimes we were on private land, but we left no trace.
