Last summer I did all my trips in the Wind Rivers camping between trips. I never stayed in a motel or ate in a restaurant. With gas prices this year I decided to try this with Sierra trips. I have not had any problems with the second trip, either leaving early or less enjoyment. For me, the bigger problem is that once I get home all the regular household and garden chores back up and overwhelm me, and I have trouble getting going again. It is a long drive to the southern Sierra so two backpacks in one drive saves a lot. Not so much for Desolation, Emigrant or Yosemite.

For the next two trips I did I even put them on the same permit with two loops out of Onion Valley. Mixed results on this- it ended up with a lot of repeat miles. But it did eliminate the difficulties of getting two permits.

Of course, a better solution to gas costs is to find a backpack partner and share the costs. Seems like coordinating two people's schedules is also a bit daunting.

Anyway, thanks for reading the trip report.

Have been doing back to back trips along the Eastern Sierra for decades. In the past, that was often due to the really long drives but in recent years also due to gasoline costs. My recent August 2024 George Lake and Treasure Lakes backpacks were such.

Great trip report from you, as always. It was nice meeting you and hiking with you down from Feather Lite Pass.
