Dropped back into this TR because one of my acquaintances said there were some recent posts. I'll respond specifically to our good fortune in getting hitches for much of the access road between 108 and Leavitt Lake. We were arriving Friday morning and that is probably the best time to find a hitch. We saw maybe 6 trucks in front and behind the one we were able to join for the couple miles up hill. We exited on a Monday, but still didn't have much problem getting a ride. Not sure how much traffic there is normally in late summer - we may have been lucky, but I do think there's a good chance to knock a few miles and some elevation off a trip by trying to hitch that stretch.
