I just tried Nido. It comes bulk. So I will provide my own ziplock baggies.

Tastes better! Different anyway; I like the taste.
It is 17% cheaper, to account for the bulk and no quart packages.

So, I think, no more Milkman for me ... after using it for 51 years! For backpacking, only that is.

Nido is good but Peak is closer. Just seems creamier to me. But it has the exact same issue with aging 12 months on. That and Peak's price, and that I gotta buy it from Amazon, inclines me back towards Nido.

Thanks for the info. I'll give it a try. BTW the Peak web site indicates it also comes in 12 gram foil packets, perhaps affording better shelf life -- if you are comfortable ordering from their Nigerian web portal.

I was in Walmart today and saw for the first time they had full-fat powdered milk (next to the fat-free). It was more expensive than fat-free but still reasonable, and a medium size package - not as large a quantity as the large can of NIDO. The Mexican food section also had 6 oz packets of Mexican Rose brand freeze-dried refried beans. I think these were available to order from the internet, but I am happy that they are now in the store. I do not know if this is a fluke of my neighborhood store or all stores.
