What a great report Harlan! I've been traveling for the past three weeks, and am anxious to get up there and get at it!

I'm surprised that you didn't find fish in Summit Creek, as I've certainly caught brookies there. But early in the season they can be hard to find---they do seem to avoid the main current carefully. I've caught them in the weeds outside of the normal channel.

And isn't that last photo of Kennedy Creek actually a photo of the Stanislaus River?

Hello Paul, Thanks for your comments. I suppose that last picture is technically the Stan., but it does contain all of Kennedy Creek too. Also, I am now chastened for not fishing Summit Creek. I saw some excellent fishing holes, but we were focused on descending back into summer.
We hope your travels went well. Were you traveling the world, teaching folks how to drink wine?

Great trip and great view of N Emigrant under a snowy mantle. Of course I don't tend to hike in that much snow because of the lack of fishing prospects. I did get a look at the Ebbetts Pass area (6/3) and the Velma Lakes area of Desolation (6/4). Getting to the Velmas involved a fair amount of snow hiking and crossing of the stream below Upper Velma was wet and interesting. Thanks again for a great report that brings out the beauty of early season trips
