I guess it is too early for PCT hikers. Maybe I missed it, but what route/pass did you take to exit? Cottonwood Pass? Did you get any impression of what conditions are now in Cottonwood Lakes? Did the route you do require a wilddernes permit?

He came from the south, over Trail Pass, into Round Valley/Horseshoe Meadow. He did not go through Cottonwood Lakes, that's to the north.

I am amazed you covered so much ground each day, yet had time to photograph all those flower species. How much did you carry? Almost 20 miles a day in that terrain seems incredible. How many hours a day were you hiking?

there are some PCT hikers up into northern Yosemite and beyond but it seems like the bubble is south of the Sierra.
Trip reports like this are awesome, something a bit different.

Paul: I took greyhound to Bakersfield and then Kern Transit to Kernville. From Lone Pine I took Eastern Sierra Transit to Lancaster, Metrolink to LA, then Amtrak to San Diego.
Point to Point with no cars. Solid. And under visited area in prime season too. So many style points on this one.

John: I typically hiked 12 hours a day. My base weight with bear can, spikes, and axe is about 12 pounds. Water was so plentiful I never carried more than a liter, so my pack was never heavier than low 20s.

WD: I fudged the permit a bit. You don't need one for anything south of Golden Trout but I should have gotten the Jerkey trailhead permit. Instead I had a Blackrock permit. They are both non quota so I thought it would be okay.

what a magnificent and clever route! Great photo's. Looking at CalTopo it looks like significant part of trip was off trail? DL
