if you pick a fight with the weather, the weather always wins. you can see this one coming a mile away. actually, a thousand miles away.

I just cancelled a permit with Tuesday entry; might reschedule a couple days later. Having been rained on a couple of nights on my last trip (ten days ago) and finding out my 6 year old tent isn’t quite waterproof anymore, I’m not looking forward to a nighttime drenching from the tail end of this storm.

Yep, cancelled Monday entry and bumped to Thursday...subject to change too of course as are weather forecasts for the Sierras 100% accurate?! Last trip had a full clear sunny skies forecast and got an afternoon rain, sleet and snow scenario.

I'm following this link closely and it's helpful to me atleast.
But, yeah, I'm think I'm going to be postponing from Sunday to Tuesday (car camp near Mammoth area Monday and drive over after the storm has sort of passed on Monday afternoon).

And don't forget that heavy rain can washout trailhead roads, even paved ones.

@Jayofthemountains Yeah, Tuesday is highly optimistic. We bail into the White Mtn rain shadow when it gets Ugly. The massive erosion scar/trenches that wiped out upper Shepherd pass are imprinted on my memory. It would be terrifying/lethal to be in the presence of that kind of dump.

I came out of Coyote Ridge into Bishop a few yrs ago after a monsoon(rained all night) the same yr 168 mudslide that closed it for a few days. The road had a 3' by 18" wide deep rut washed down somewhat the middle that kept caving in as my truck crossed it. Not fun but doable with spotting help.

This has been a superlative bad weather year, that has severely damaged roads, bridges and trails. I think pressing my luck, taking on a hurricane system, on top of what has already transpired make this a BIG NOPE.
