I have done all of the JMT in 2008, 2011 and 2014 and 2011 passes took longer than the other years. We went of Donahue Pass on Labor day weekend and it was a mix of firm snow, sloppy snow and running water. I have 2008 and 2011 were north bound from Cottonwood pass with a day hike up Whitney on the 3rd day. 2014 was out of the Yosemite valley with the last day up Whitney and done to the portal. I like the northbound route more. I did Whitney as a day hike in 2009. 2014 reminded me of what a down hill slog the finish is.
We haven't had a successful hiking trip in about 6 years because each time we were impacted by fire smoke. I am hopeful for this summer.
