Is it? Bears are a species of "least concern" according the IUCN. Do you write a sob story for deer or skunks or squirrels that are hit on the road?

Yes. Humankind has taken over the planet. The death of animals on the roads we've built is not a major cause of the destruction of wildlife populations, but it is a violent, in our faces view of it. So yes, even the death of insects on my windshield makes me sad. We each are welcome to own metaphysics.
