Great TR. Stunning photos. That’s one area my husband and I want to spend some time in this year or next - we keep talking about it - but will all depend on how crazy work gets between now and when our projects fly/launch. Happy to have a couple big trips planned already, but always happy for bonus trips! Thanks for the timely reminder to move this area higher on our list.

Tahoe Jeff- I understand how you could interpret it differently. But here is what I find really ironic.

"Trail Runner" is worried about a fully equipped backpacker (emergency supplies, first aid kit, appropriately geared), while HE is out there, in what he just said was really hard and dangerous, ill equipped for any emergency, running down talus where even the fittest trail runner could break a leg, ALONE and SOLO. But no worries- he is superior human. Thinks poor little backpacker is in over her/his head. Would he have given such "concern" to a male backpacker? We do not know. He could have been an equal opportunity jerk. But that is beside the point. He is a hypocrite!

I have twice, bailed out an ill-prepared trail runners. A couple of us were hiking up Clouds Rest and two trail runners came by us, skimpy little shorts and NO extra clothing at all! At the top one had a severely bloody nose, it was early season, cold, a foot of snow, and we had to treat the runner for hypothermia. Other time, trial runner did not take enough water, so I shared what little water I had with him, no comments or judgement implied on my part. A few, but of course not all, think they are invincible until they are not and then they depend on the good will of the prepared (we who carry the weight) on the trail to bail them out.

If the fellow intended to just be concerned, he certainly did not come across as such. I am very careful when I give "advise" to others and generally only give specific advise as asked, with no other "concerned" comments.

Outdoor, adventure, and action sports have historically been dominated by white men and are not always welcoming to people who are not that. This ranges from very subtle interactions to more explicit ones. It's pretty difficult to recognize this if you are not of the demographic that has experienced it. It is very easy to know when someone is trying to be helpful vs being condescending. I won't be responding any more to any questioning of the experience I had. You were not there. Thanks.

maia was the only person around these parts who was there. why wouldn't we default to believing the experience of a long time, awesome member of this forum?

Thanks for the photos and route descriptions. I'll use this in my planning for this summer. It's a big winter so far. Wondering how the passes will be in late July. Time will tell.
