If you don't necessarily need to go to the valley, I would do an in-n-out to Young Lakes, exiting Dog Lake. It's a really simple and easy trip with great views. You'll see a lot of rugged terrain without having to hike it, if that's what you prefer. Some nice day hikes from the upper lake.

If you do go to the valley, to get back to the car at TM, check on the schedule for hikers shuttle or YARTS.
