Re: Schmalz hikes the PCT
right on!
many a time I've wanted to resign my job and undertake something of this magnitude.
not too sure my wife would appreciate me taking off and leaving her with our 14 month old son though!
sure you're gonna miss your little guy out there on the trail..
i look forward to your posts here and on CaliTrails.
safe and amazing journeys!

Have a great trip, congrats for making the commitment. You are going to love it. I did the PCT in 1991 ( the year we had 'miracle march') and seeing the Sierra with a lot of snow and few people is amazing.

Was that a solo trip Dave? Please read: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=14319I did the PCT in 1991

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

Have a great trip! It's a once in a lifetime experience and I hope it more than lives up to expectations. Best of luck.
I don’t need a goal destination. I need a destination that meets my goals.

Re: Schmalz hikes the PCT
Riss, Callie, and I will be at Matlock Lake tomorrow and at Tyee Lakes on Saturday, if anyone is in the area and happens to see a couple with a dog, please say hi. I'm still planning on starting at Cottonwood Pass on Sunday. It looks like the weather is cooperating and I'm lucky to be able to skip past the Chimney Fire. An ominous sign to start the summer and one of the reasons why I'll be hiking as fast as I can.
I hope to see some of you out there.
Brian

Re: Schmalz hikes the PCT
Made it to Mammoth in 9 days. Conditions for the first stretch were the the same that Hobbes and Bluewater ran into. A winter storm came in 2 days ago that dropped snow down to 8k feet, flooded creeks, and added about 8 inches of soft sticky snow up high. Needless to say, it made things rough. I think most pcters headed to vvr but I decided to push through. I'll put some pics up on calitrails face book tomorrow. If anyone has any questions I can answer those as well. I won't have time for a full trip report though.
