Panamint Butte from Big Four Mine

PHOTOS: http://snownymph.smugmug.com/gallery/2463348#129205205

Tomcat, NormaR and Snow Nymph dayclimbed Panamint Butte (6,584'). I enjoyed the hike a lot more than my first time 2 years ago, which was thru clouds, no visibility and freezing temps.

I didn't know they let half naked cats up on the mountain - great photos - the afterrnoon lighting was one of a kind.

I got my Panamint Butte photos up - still working on Zinc Hill

Cori and Tom~
Again, thanx for all your support and guidance in the "steep stuff." What a thrilling hike! I literally couldn't have done it without you! :notworthy:

You forgot to mention the 70-75 mph winds we hiked with at the end. No pictures of that since it was too windy to try and hold a camera still.

Great photos, great memories.

Tom, you captured some great shots of the sunlight through the clouds and the sunset on the Butte. That was a sight to behold.

Photos of the wind blowing you around all came out blurry. I'll add some more photos of the alpenglow when I get a chance, too tired last night.

Tom got some good ones! :)

Great pics, everyone. Can't believe it was that warm; certainly doesn't look it! Nice pictures of Panamint Dunes, too! Norma, that ridge looks gnarly; that can't have been fun trying to get down, especially in the wind! That shale makes for real slippery stuff.

By the way, nice biceps. :unibrow:

Ah, Tom....the end of the hike.....the suffering, the suffering......work is never done..........!

thanks for the great comments all - it was nice to do something with some significant elevation gain. walking sideways against 75mph gusts made it interesting for the last part of the hike down. to stand on that ridgeline as all the colors came alive around us was --- just a "wow" moment for me

Norma - you did great - we took you too the next level and you came through with flying colors. in no time at all you will be skiing down scree slopes like the rest of us.

trekker: ahhh the suffering indeed - I know you would have done the same in my place. especially after hiking around with scantily clothed women all morning. a cat's gotta do what a cat's gotta do :unibrow:

Just looked at the pixs again. WoW! That was some hike!

Tom, I'm looking forward to scree skiing, just thought i would learn on a "bunny slope" and not a double-black diamond! Yikes! But you and Cori got me down them. You're great instructors.

Trekker, I found going up the loose step stuff scarier than going down. All the braking going down was hard on my knees and they have just recovered today.

Sure glad i had that $20 pedicure on Friday. And the foot massage after the 8.5 hour hike on Saturday?... priceless! :p

Zinc Hill

PHOTOS: http://snownymph.smugmug.com/gallery/24 ... #129599655

Tomcat, NormaR and Snow Nymph slept in after a late night (showers at 8pm, found camp after 9pm, dinner at 10pm, campfire til 1am). Met Rachel at Darwin Canyon and carpooled for the drive to where we started hiking. We did a nice loop hike with a summit of Zinc Hill.

Zinc Hill was a mild day considering the 5,000+ feet of gain from the day before - included are some pictures from morning camp at Union Wash - the Inyos and the Sierras got a fresh dusting of snow. today was a hike in shorts day - but I did manage to keep my shirt on.
