For me alone I find the size to be too big, too. Even 50L is a 'bit' big. But I bought the 58 because I wanted something that I could carry some of my wife's gear in, which is required when she agrees to accompany me on trips.sheperd80 wrote:I tried on the 58 in store and while it was a great fit for me, it was way too big for my gear.

Yeah i think ill hang on to my 60L pack for that very reason. :-) She hasnt done an overnight with me yet but I'll need room for several extra blankets when she does. Shes a cold sleeper and too claustrophobic for most bags.
When we go car camping, the capacity of my Yukon XL is already at its limits! We plan to go to Cathedral Lakes overnight this summer. Perhaps I'll bring a rolling cart like that gentleman whos hiking the entire planet!

$5.38 this year - I'd burn more in gas to go to the store than I got back. I think I only bought some isobutene fuel and a Nalgene canteen last year. Once you find the gear that works for you and you're done experimenting, there's not much you need to buy anymore.

Re: REI Dividend
Since the 20% started today, I used mine to help pay for a good portion of a MSR Hubba Hubba NX tent and footprint to replace my 1998 Sierra Designs that died last year. And I remembered to go through the HST link.
I don’t need a goal destination. I need a destination that meets my goals.

Re: REI Dividend
I recently bought a new REI Crestrail 70 pack after a pretty exhaustive evaluation, and the gal in the local REI store implied that it was made by the same people who make Osprey packs and perhaps even designed by Osprey. Anybody know if that's true and/or if there's any way of finding out? It doesn't matter, of course, but I'm curious. The designs do seem very similar (at least between the newest REI packs and the Ospreys or a year or two back...).
So far, I'm quite happy with the Crestrail, though I haven't done anything more than shakedown day hikes with it yet.

Re: REI Dividend
Osprey makes the Kestrel. They discontinued a couple of the 58L and above models a couple of years ago. Don't know if there's a connection to the REI Cestrail, or if your salesperson you had was just confused.

Re: REI Dividend
Had no dividend to spend but I used the 20% to get my boots for the summer. This will be my 6th pair of Zamberlan Vioz GT.

Yeah they treat me well. Only pair of boots I have had so far that can get me through a 100 days of rugged cross country travel and keep on going.
