Sonora Pass open today

According to the Summer Ranger Station at Pinecrest Lake, Highway 108 will be open at noon today, from Kennedy Meadows all the way to Highway 395.



That's great news, because it means we have access to all kinds of wonderful trails. It's also vaguely disturbing to think that there is so little snow up there that this pass, at around 9,000 feet, is open in April.

Sonora Pass to open Wednesday, April 24

Caltrans has announced that it plans on opening the Sonora Pass Highway 108 today, April 24. Long-time locals, according to a Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest press release, recall only one earlier opening date in recent history—April 20, year unknown.

The PCT kickoff is tomorrow. Those guys better walk fast before every & all available water sources evaporate.
