Re: whats in your headphones?
I like music. I was a musician in collage, a good one too. I have a music minor. My son has a masters degree in music, yet after all this, I'm going to write something very unusual which won't be popular. What a shock, me writing something unpopular. I think we listen to music to drown out our thoughts (principally feelings). The older I've gotten the more contemplative I've become. The more I contemplate the less I listen to music. I believe that if you slightly agree or don't care this probably doesn't apply to you. If you strongly disagree it probably applies to you strongly. This is, of course, just my opinion. I bring this up only because I think that it is something worthwhile for the individual to contemplate. I don't mean it to be a topic of discussion
When I was BPing alone I always brought a small radio. Like Wandering Daisey I would often go to bed not sleepy. I find that listening to people talk about something interesting really fit the bill for me.

Re: whats in your headphones?
this thread was meant more as a place to post music than to discuss the merits of hiking with or without headphones.

Re: whats in your headphones?
Classis rock.
Way way back we would sometimes on short backpacks bring these bulky tape cassette players of that day with us that include a speaker above the cassette slot. If you've never seen one of those, your just a tyke:

Last few years have been using a tiny Sandisk Sansa Clip+ mp3 player with a variety of earbuds. But recently bought two pairs of Senheiser PX-100-II collapsible mini headphones which weigh just 3.5 ounces. On one pair I removed the speakers from the head band and installed them into my Smith Optics Variant Brim ski helmet while the other is for anything else including tossing them into my backpack.
Infrequently listen while hiking trails and never when cross country which we often are rambling. I really don't need to always be listening to nature because, been there done that over a lifetime way more than few others. Sometimes listening to hard driving classic rock can help me going uphill on a trail as it can be a diversion to the usual unpleasantness of hefting 65 to 80 pound loads. And sometimes on long boring trail downhills. Otherwise lounging around base camp midday like marksfor.

Didnt reply before Sparky as Ive never had an IPOD or similar, but my kids gave me an IPOD Nano for XMAS so it will join me next summer. I'll be alot like Marksor with older rock dominating my choices. The Dead, Ten Years After, Hendrix, The James Gang, etc, but I will have some Offspring and Sublime along as well. I can already imagine the alpen glow with Tulls Thick as a Brick as the background!!! Really like alot of your links. Very cool!!!!
