HikeStrong for Cancer Reasearch and Treatment

Following your Bliss leads you to places you never could have expected. If you told me 2 years ago I would hike all the way from Mexico to Canada and make it in one season I might not have believed you. Well, it is a reality now.. a great personal success.
Now I am about to embark on another personal journey along the 3100 mile Continental Divide Trail from the Mexican border to the Canadian border.
I have decided to join forces with Hikestrong to perhaps bring about more than mere personal glory on my hike. Please understand I am asking nothing for myself. I have worked very hard since the PCT and I will fund my CDT hike myself.
If my hike or the treks of my fellow hikers on the Hikestrong team inspire even one person to give to the cause of Cancer research it will become a "double" success.
I am a total newby at this fundraising stuff so I sure hope I am not offending anyone or creating spam by posting this.
It took a personal epiphany for me to reach this descision.
I know it is the right thing to do.
For my uncle Jim Pearson, my childhood mentor George Anderson, and everyone else touched by cancer I shall hike thru!

What an experience it will be for you... I can tell you from my own experience last year that it will take your hiking, and what you get from it, to a totally different level.

Sucks. Found out late last week that a family member is Stage 4, also.

How's this for family bad luck. My wife (saint Diane) is in the hospital for Pancreatic Cancer, and I'm going to have my Prostate removed in less than 3 week because I have an aggressive cancer.

I am so sorry to hear that. I hope you both respond to treatment well.
While I was on my hike this past summer I got news that the man I sourced my topographic information from had to undergo emergency surgery for cancer.
It is unfortunate that it seems like everyone has been or knows someone that has been touched by cancer. My mother had to have her thyroid removed due to cancer when i was a kid.
The treatments are getting better by leaps and bounds these days due to new technologies in every field.

That is definitely what I would call bad luck. But I'm also a firm believer in good luck always follows bad. My thoughts and prayers are with you both in this difficult time.
