Hope you all got out this weekend!

Post by ndwoods »

I did the North Rim in Yosemite. Had some solitude and the ridge several hundred feet above North Dome is stunning. Was amazing getting out of the valley tho. I have never seen so many cars ever in the valley. I've been backpacking there holidays before too. I don't get it...with the lower pines campgrounds washed away years ago...how can there be more people in the valley with less accomodations? :-k

Excellent trail choice ndwoods for late May with many small streams over the granite bedrock and snow on the background peaks. I spent Sat/Sun down in the Mather and Hetch Hetchy area. Stopped in some at the Strawberry Blue Grass festival too. At dawn along Evergreen Road saw a black bear cross the road and head down into the steep canyon. Went to some old favorite late season wildflower spots in areas of granite sand flats about the glaciated bedrock landscape. Found a few superb areas like the above that were such a joy to experience. Lots of G10 closeups like the above and a even few flowery landscapes with my 4x5. On the way home a warm Sunday midday, stopped in along SR120 at Rainbow Pool and it was overflowing with people including many of which were jumping in from all the spooky cliff launch points or taking the water slide over the falls.

I played way too hard.

Stayed locally in the RV. Had Long Lake all to ourselves -- no one else there (except the skeeters). Went mtn biking all day Saturday, and paddled all day Sunday at McCoy. Got up early and paddled again this morning. Then came home early.

I am sore, I am bug bit, and I am sunburned. But it was all worth it! :D

Ha! Ok, my pic is just a snap, didn't get any pics like David...but you can see the view we had. The trails were great. Some snow once on the top, but melting fast and easy route finding. Skeeters in only one place and easily outwalked. Was supposed to have Tstorms Sat and Sun...we had awesome clouds, thunder on Sat in the distance...but by bedtime clouds were gone and we had alpenglow then clear skies to sleep under! Can't wait til next trip....:)
Oh...and we slept under starry skies...the tent was only up in this pic during the aft so I could read in the hot sun! Major Grin!
