2025 Mosquito Reports

Post by maverick »

Use the following scale to report the severity of the mozzies you experience:

0 - No mosquitoes

1 - They were present but not biting yet

2 - Very light during the day, moderate at dawn and dusk

3 - Moderate during the day, heavy at dawn and dusk

4 - Heavy during the day, heavy at dawn and dusk

5 - Unbearable all day, no breaks, cannot eat outside the tent. If you stop, hundreds will descend on you; looking through a camera viewfinder, you see more skeeters than a lake. If you slapped your arm, you'd smear blood from all the dead gorged bodies.

Please do not post questions or ask about a particular area in this thread; any off-topic comments will be deleted.

Please include where you went, with dates included, in the "Subject" box.
Thanks

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

See conditions report for general route.

Moderate/heavy on all >7,800' lakes and meadows. Level decreases with elevation, reaching near zero around 8,500'.

Notables:

Roosavelt Lake, Lane Lake, and W Walker River up to Hidden Lake = 3.5

Kennedy Creek between Kennedy Lake and Sharon Lake outlet creek= 3

6/2 - 6/10 golden trout and southern edge SEKI

Post by paul »

horseshoe meadows, mulkey meadows, templeton meadows, kern peak, golden trout creek, Rocky basin lakes, boreal plateau, siberian outpost, tunnel meadow ; 0-2 going in, some areas 3 on the way out. Oddly not that much difference between dawn/dusk and midday. They were worst along Golden trout creek and South Fork of the Kern.
