San Joaquin Mountain dayclimb

Dayclimbed San Joaquin Peak with Dee Booth to acclimatize for Matterhorn Peak. It was smoky to the north, east and south, clear to the west. Views were great, and we spent 1.5 hrs at the top (no register). Weather was great, but got really windy on the way back. Clear blue skies above us. Beautiful day!

Saturday, 5 July 2008 (day 2 of 3)
Matterhorn Peak from Horse Creek via the south east slope

Dee and I met Ridgeline at Mono Village in the morning. We dayclimbed Matterhorn Peak from Horse Creek via the SE ridge. It was steep at the end, and the class 3 section we took going up was fun! We summitted before our turnaround time, and it was a rewarding peak. We (especially me) were all happy to summit. (wk 129, day 2 of 3) I drove home on day 3 because of a sore foot, all I could think of was Tomcat's plantar faciatis and thought maybe that's what I had. My chiro made adjustments on Mon, and the pain is gone now!
Matterhorn Peak from the North
Looking back where we came up
Crossed the creek and headed up Horse Creek Pass
steep, steep, steep (aka heel burners)
Matterhorn Peak from the SE slope
We're going up there?
Class 3
Fun!
great views from the summit
happy peakbaggers!
heading back
Beautiful day!

Re: San Joaquin Mountain, Matterhorn Peak
This was a very rewarding hike, with a bit of everything, the climbing at the end was fun. If I wasnt gasping for air and sliding in scree both hands were jambing cracks or holding on, so I took very few pics, Snowy, great shots as usual. I could not have had better partners for this one!
This was an air shot, forgot to get your feet.
Here is Dee leading down, Great Job!
