Mokelumne Wilderness X-country

Hey Gang - just looking at some online maps and wondering how feasible it would be to trek from the Lost Lakes to Granite Lake. The route would head SW around Upper Blue Lake and then up the drainage to Granite. How is that last part? Looks very doable but I've never actually been to the area before.

Not sure why you'd want to go XC on this route. There is a trail/old abandoned road from Lost Lakes to Upper Blue Lake. There is a trail from the Blue Lake Outlet to Granite Lake. Seems like that would work.

Access to the TH to Granite is closed for the year as they do "planned work." Plus it might be fun to take the scenic route

Even though PG&E is working up there, you can still walk the Grouse Lk trail from the TH at the dam at Upper Blue to Granite.

A friend of mine did it a few weeks ago. He parked at the reader board right at the entrance to lower Blue. He walked up the road, and if workers/equipment came, he just got off the road and they passed by.

Another way to do it would be cut over to the Summit City trail, drop down and then head up Devil's Corral, then either over the hump or around it to Granite Lake. I've done Granite Lake to Devil's Corral before, and it's a fun route.

That area of Mokelumne is where I introduced my son to cross-country travel. Lots of interesting potential routes all over.

That area of Devil's Corral is called that for a reason. I think it would be easier just to take the Evergreen Trail back to Blue lake and go from there. Can you say talus and manzanita?

So I got to the Lower Blue Lake Campground and it was clear cars couldn't drive up the narrow road to Upper Blue Lake as there were lots of construction vehicles coming down. I talked to the camp host and he was very helpful. He suggested parking and either cutting around the west side of the lake or skirting east of the road. He said not to hike along the road and especially to not let the security guard spot me else they'd try to kick me out. I ended up driving down the road to Twin Lake and hiking north from there to intersect Grouse Lake Trail.
