A friend of mine recently published a very cool book on the 1833 Walker expedition crossing the Sierra. Walker is credited as the first Euro-American to see Yosemite Valley but the evidence shows he probably crossed north of Ebbetts Pass and Highway 4. Interesting detective work, history of fur trapping and climate during the Little Ice Age.
