I have the 2016 version. Some great features and it's reasonable at $40. FYI, it's an REI exclusive product though.

When I bought mine at REI in the Fall the website said it was an exclusive. Probably a short term agreement until Christmas.robow8 wrote:It's funny. I just typed in Backcountry to see if they did have them!mschnaidt wrote:And 15% off! Sweet!
I'm hoping to do a little night hiking this year and the Spot should work well for it. Hitting the trailhead after work/drive and getting a few miles in gets me an extra night

Re: Update: Advice on a Headlamp
Received new 2016 Black Diamond Spot the other day. Wow, is it bright on the large lamp setting. Supposed to be waterproof to 1m? Hope I don't have to find out. Controls pretty easy to figure out, although I only worked the white and red lights, plus dimming. Didn't try the strobe, maybe if I hit a rave someday.
Overall, looks like a good useful product, and very light as well, 3oz I think. Got some AAA NiMh batteries on the way so I can use rechargeables.
