Cliff Lake from Courtwright

Post by Jbarton »

My wife and her Venture Scouts are going to head out to Cliff lake for their first short weekend backpacking trip. They will be leaving from Courtwright reservoir and heading to Cliff Lake. My question is, how we'll marked are the trails. Will they be easy enough to follow for some first time backpackers?

I'd say so. The one spot where you want to be sure you are going the correct direction is when you get to the inlet stream of Courtright - the trail will cross the creek, and some downed trees confuse things on the other side. Make sure you are on the most used, north bound trail away from the lake, and not paralleling the lakeshore on the maze of fishermen's trails there.

There is a junction at the Nelson Lake trail and another where a trail heads for Helm Meadow, but both are signed.
