High Sierra Topix

I've considered the idea from Mineral King. Take all their shots for years and lime lapse them. Would be pretty cool.

Looks like the site owner did it for a few years and then stopped, but some are nice to watch.

For some reason I thought that the mineral king webcams were run by the park service, so I didn't know if they were public domain for some reason as a result. Turns out they are privately operated anyways so it's a moot point. I'll see if the operator is interested in the idea and will let me use the photos.

The Half Dome cam is all over the news right now with time series of the drought. That's the only one I know of that has been used for that purpose, although most if not all are publicly owned and as such any archived imagery administering agencies have is/are subject to public disclosure act.

Schmalz, here is link to a webcam overlooking the Kern river. I didn't look to see how far you can go back but each day is recorded and can be watched as a 24hr period. Is this something you are looking for.

It looks like you can do the same for all of the listed webcams, over 1,300 in California alone.

I don't believe you have to ask for permission to use the images. Perhaps if you were profiting in some way from them but due to the fact that they aren't placed under any specific copy right label and are open to anyone you can use them and if by some stretch the owner of the cams did not want the use it would require them to see the finished product and begin some sort of dispute then.
