Help, oh help: Sheep MIA

Campers:

So, not having cable TV, a couple of backcountry rangers of Sequoia Kings have been amusing themselves over the last 8 years by putting a stuffed sheep out on the trail in June with a note that it needs to return by September to Crabtree RS. It's got a notebook and people write of the travels and random thoughts. Over the years, sheep has been singed by campfires and lost an ear (kindly replaced by a red bandana by someone). But Sheep always came home. Sheep went out on the trail June of '08 and was never seen again. Oh woe is us.

So, if anyone sees a wintered-over stuffed semi-white sheep, probably a little worse for wear... -- on your travels this summer, get word to me or to the Crabtree RS.

Thanks!

Everyone have a great & safe hiking season.

I remember hearing about the sheep some time ago. Cool idea. Hope you find him, George.

We'll definitely keep an eye out for him (her?) on our JMT hike this year. Well-patrolled territory, I know, but another few pairs of eyes certainly won't hurt!

Has this domesticated sheep come into contact with the listed native bighorns? What about disease transfer? Gads, do the parkies have biological opinion for this? I hope its not in critical habitat! LOL FWS
