If he had to be evaced, either he couldn't see or he couldn't walk. So I guess he suffered from snow blindness, with blisters on his eyelids. How's that for creative ?

Inside of his nose, neck/ears...armpits - places where reflection off snow can really bite.

I was close, wrong end.:) I need to watch the sun exposure when out on trips in the winter, the last few times my eyes have been a little puffy, like I had bad allergies.

OK... his knees - they swelled so much he couldn't bend his legs

This is on the outside of his body, right? It's not an ORGAN, is it? (I can't imagine how that could be possible, though)
