I just noticed today that several of us were on talking about a certain topic. I thought it might be nice if we had some sort of break-out/chat room capability. I know voice would be out of the question, but at least chat would give us a chance to voice stuff before a concensus is reached and posted.

To me, working towards a consensus through posting is what forums are all about - but maybe that's just me?
Anyway, we tried an attached chat feature years ago and it wasn't successful. Nobody really used it. Truthfully, I'm sort of against chat simply because it does nothing to increase the permanent, web search engine queryable content of this site. And the less content, the less traffic to the site.
If any of you have AOL Messenger, MSN Messenger, etc. you can simply add your handle to your profile and a link appears in every post you make that others can click on if they want to chat off the boards. Another option is the PM feature.
