Smoke was pretty much nil. Dark clouds and rain kept us off Conness tho (we made it to the marsh at the cirque below the plateau and turned back), guess that happens pretty often around Conness... next time!
What about the skeeters?

I'm heading to Kings Canyon for about 5 days beginning August 15th- I'd like to just bring a tarp but bug-wise is that out of the question until later in the season?

Bump.

Any recent reports from the Sabrina Basin area? Looking specifically for Hungry Packer or Midnight Lakes area. Any and all beta would be appreciated. A few friends and I are heading up that way next week. Would like to gauge how much DEET to bring (if that's even possible).

Thanks!

Maybe my wife and I saw you, in Sabrina Lakes Basin last week. Went in 8-13, out 8-17.

Sabrina Lake, Blue Lake, Donkey Lake, Emerald Lakes all 1 (loved that!).

Few people too for such a popular area, although we changed plans (stayed at Blue Lake instead of Moonlight and day hiked to the others) when the passing trail guide said he was heading his loaded mules to Sailor Lake.
