We're #29.

This is weighted towards hunting and fishing and not everyone rates those high. I'm OK with that. Still an interesting list. I don't disagree with being rated so high. I'm here by choice.

I didn't view the list, but one comment about Susanville being #1?

My wife made an interesting comment the other morning, as we were paddling on Walker Lake (Mountain Meadows Reservoir to non-locals), watching the waterfowl, shorebirds, and wildlife on the near glassy lake, and not another soul to be seen.

"Exactly why do we drive all over the western U.S. looking for places to camp and explore, when this is our back yard?"

It did give me pause. A short drive from our house on dirt roads (12 minutes. I timed it) lets us launch our canoe on what may as well be a private wildlife reserve. About 1/2 hour to the Caribou Wilderness. A little longer to Lassen Volcanic NP. A zillion places to disperse camp in absolute privacy and solitude within a short drive. Take off on my mountain bike and ride all day without seeing anyone else.

She's right. I think I am going to save a lot of gas the rest of the summer.

The #1 town is in Arkansas? That's nowhere near the Sierra Nevada! What on earth are those people thinking?
