Sluggo Pass

General Overview: This is a ridge that separates the drainage of the Lyell Fork of the Merced from the Hutchings Creek basin to the West.
Class: 2
Location: Yosemite National park, far southeast corner
Elevation: 11,520 ft.
USGS Map: Mt. Lyell (7.5 minute)
HST Map: HST Map
Route description: I finally tracked down old photos that I'd posted in a TR from 2007 and they give an idea of the ascent that we faced from the Hutchings Creek side of the pass, as we headed over to the Lyell Fork of the Merced. Frankly, the elevation looked higher than I was expecting, but there are several options for ascending to the ridge, and aside from the rock being precariously loose in spots (as it tends to be throughout this region), there was nothing treacherous about the climb. The descent on the Lyell fork side is very mellow, and I'll attach shots looking up from the Hutchings side and then from the ridge looking into the Lyell fork basin. I'm hoping to go back to this area this Summer, so I may be able to embellish the photo collection. Cameron
