July Trip Planning/Bear Canister Rentals

Hello,
This is my first post on this site. Ive been reading for a few weeks and have learned a ton of great information. Thanks for all your contributions. I apologize for any repeat questions, I have read and searched quite a bit.
We'll be a Group of 3 or 4 and a are pretty experienced on and off trail. We have a 10 day trip in mid to late July in the works and finalizing travel plans now. We are from Michigan so very much flat landers, but our last trip was 10 days in Yosemite and we had a great time. Prior to that we have covered just about every inch of Isle Royale over many trips. We're hooked on the mountains now and can't wait to get back.
We will be starting our trip at South lake and working around to North lake with some side detours planned. We especially want to get over Lamarck Col and to Darwin Bench. We plan on leaving the rental car at North Lake and getting a ride to South Lake to start. We will start out nice and slow and hopefully acclimate well to the elevation. We followed a similar game plan in Yosemite and it served us well.
I have read that we can rent bear canisters at the permitting stations. Is this correct? What type do they rent and what are the fees? Any chance they will run out? If so, I guess we'd have to buy them in Bishop. Is there a place to purchase in town? It looks like we'll be picking up permits and looking for canister rentals on a Tuesday or Wednesday.
In Yosemite we shipped a resupply box to ourselves in Toulumne Meadows about half way through so we didn't have to carry so much food. For this trip it looks like we have to carry all 10 days with us and will hopefully be able to catch some fish to supplement. (We love fishing for trout so another reason for taking our time with this trip.) We used the Garcias in Yosemite and managed just fine, although I swear they are made out of lead. I am worried about fitting 10 days of food into one and will have to pack wisely.
We'll be flying into Reno and getting a rental car. My thoughts are to pick up our permit and rent bear canisters at Lee Vining or Bishop (if we have time to get there before they close for the evening). We also will be shipping some of our gear ahead of us so the TSA doesn't confiscate anything they don't like, so we'll need to pick up at a post office.
thanks for any advice, I'm sure I'll have more questions I'll need help with.
