North Guard lake is indeed a beautiful place and it is indeed off the beaten track, although not too far as the crow flies from a trailhead. In spite of what appears to be really good spawning habitat it appears to be fishless. I suspect that probably cuts down on what would be low visitation even if it had fish. I too have wondered about Cross but haven't been there. I visited North Guard as part of a fairly long day that began with me moving my pack from South Guard L. to the Sphinxes, then day tripping to North Guard. There is something about doing a solo hike when you descend a long way knowing that you'll have to come back up. It really messed with my head during the descent. Coming back over the top was not as tiring as I thought it might be and I still had time to make up for my fishless day at the Sphinxes.

I don't know if this "qualifies" but I found a beautiful little unnamed lake when hiking to Sky Meadows, then climbing up towards the crag. I named it Elf Lake (it is very green and quite small). It is shown towards the end of this short video:
