Clover Meadow to Devil's Postpile day hike, thoughts?

Hello everyone!

I've heard that this is a pretty good day hike from the Mammoth Trailhead by Clover Meadow at the end of Beashore Dr. to the Red's Meadow/Devil's Postpile. Stats look like about 15 miles and some up and down elevation to total about 4500 feet up, 3500 feet down there abouts. Has anyone done this? My dad and I were thinking this would be quite doable and have a nice meal on the east side. Has anyone here done this or recommend this? This trail doesn't really scare me and I can't seem to find much info on it, then the plan was to catch the shuttle back to Mammoth Lakes. Any info or other topics I couldn't find would be great, thanks!

Friends have done this as a key exchange or out and back. getting back to Mammoth trailhead by road is a loooooong trip.

Thanks! Yeah I've been to the Isberg area and the ranger station there recently. It's a beautiful drive, but it is quite long. I think the logistics of this hike are going to be the hardest. The original idea was that we would get dropped off the day/night before up there and then hike on a Friday to Mammoth, then come back with our intended group on Sunday. The hardest step is to see if we could shuttle up to the TH or see if there's a way to see if it's possible to car camp with the person dropping us off.

I've done Horseshoe Lake to East Fork Granite Creek in one day around this time of year. I didn't find it particularly interesting. Few people do it. More head up Granite Creek, or North Fork S.J. The trees obscure the view except near the North Fork, and east of Granite Staircase. You may get a better view going east into the Middle Fork. It's likely dry from North Fork to King Creek, except Cargyle Creek.

I'd find more interesting a counterclockwise loop over Hemlock Crossing.
