permit for Whitney
I got my permit for the JMT and one of the hikers in the group, brother does not want to do the entire trail but he wants to join us for the hike to summit Mt Whitney. Does he need a permit and if he does how does he go about applying for one.

He will need a permit unless he goes UP the Mountaineer's Route. He can apply for it in advance, or he can show up the day before and try his luck with a walk in permit.

the lottery for permits on the main trail started Feb 15th. As
Snowy said he can take the Mteers route up without a permit(dayhike), but that is class 3 and requires some scrambling skillz.
