Avoiding reaction to skeeter bites ?

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

Avoiding reaction to skeeter bites ?

Post by The Other Tom »

My son claims that the best way to avoid a reaction (itching bump) to a skeeter bite is to not swat the skeeter when he bites, but let him drink his fill. Apparently the skeeter doesn't put as much irritant in your skin this way. It seems to work for him, but for me it's hard to fight the urge to swat. Anybody else have any experience with this ?

I've heard that, too. But like you, it hasn't proven to work for me.
