?'s shuttling from Tuolomne Meadows to Merced Amtrak

Post by CameraMarty »

Checking my research with you.

August hike, ten days ending at Tuolomne Meadows in the evening. We'll stay in the backpacker camp at TM.

Next morning at 10am, catch the Mammoth-to-YosemiteValley bus from TM to YV. We'll gorge at the valley for half a day, then take the 4pm bus from YV to Merced Amtrak.

I have the bookmarks on another computer, so I don't have the agency names of the busses, but I'm fairly certain this was the itinerary I came up with.

We figure the entire trip home to Sacramento will take about one day, and with the Mammoth-to-YosemiteValley shuttle arriving at Tuolomne Meadows ONLY at 10am, we pretty much have to end our hike at TM in the afternoon and lay-up, which is fine.

Am I missing anything?

We're hiking Ebbetts to TM, early resupply at Sonora Pass.

Sounds like you got this handled nicely.

Hi CameraMarty,

Welcome HST! Looks like you have your info, we are looking forward to reading your TR.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

You have more options for getting from Tuolumne Meadows to Yosemite Valley. You've found YARTs which leaves the TM store at 10:15 a.m. There is also the Hiker's Bus which leaves the TM Visitor Center at 10:15 a.m, 1:15 p.m, and 7:00 p.m. and gets you to the valley ~2 hours later. See http://www.yosemitepark.com/tuolumne-meadows-tour.aspx and http://www.yosemitepark.com/Files/TM_Hi ... s_2015.pdf .

So you could extend your backpacking a day and catch the 1:15 Hiker's Bus to the valley, then the 3:40 YARTs to Merced and Amtrak to Sacto. Or you could hike all day and catch the evening bus to the Valley and layup at the backpacker camp in the Valley and catch the YARTs to Merced the next day.

They've updated the Hiker's Bus web site and corrected the schedule which previously showed an extra bus trip. The corrected schedule is at http://www.yosemitepark.com/Files/Hiker ... 15_rev.pdf . Buses started running May 30th and, new this year, it is now free!
