Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

WEATHER FORECAST 2/7/07

Post by dmatt »

Forecast for Mammoth & the Owens Valley
Provided by Dennis Mattinson
Forecast Specialist for the Sierra Wave 92.5 / 96.5 FM
Broadcast Times 12:30pm & 5:30pm M - F

The first shortwave in the series will be moving into the High Country this evening with snow levels fairly high at about 7,000 to 8,000 feet. I expect maybe 6 inches at Mammoth Mountain and less southward.

Today for Bishop & the Owens Valley: Partly sunny with some high clouds overhead. High temperatures are expected to be in the upper 50s with evening lows around 30. There will be a south wind 10 - 20 mph in the afternoon.

Today for Mammoth: Mostly cloudy with a chance rain and snow in the afternoon and evening. Snow level will be around 8,000 feet in the afternoon, lowering to 7,000 feet in the evening. Highs will be in the mid 40s and lows in the mid 20s. Southwest wind 10 - 20 gusting to 30 in town and as much as 90 mph over the Crest.

Thursday for Bishop & the Owens Valley: Mostly cloudy with a slight chance of rain in the evening. Highs will be in the upper 50s and lows in the mid 30s. South wind 10 - 15 mph.

Thursday for Mammoth: Chance of rain and snow. Snow level will be around 7,500 feet in the evening. Highs will be in the low 40s and lows in the mid 20s. Southwest wind 10 - 15 and 70 mph over the Crest.

Even though here is still some uncertainty as to the precise timing of each shortwave, this unsettled period of weather will continue through the end of the week and into the next with the strongest potential for precipitation over the weekend. A moist southwest sub tropical flow will give us an excellent chance for snow in the High country and rain in the Owens Valley during this period.

Thank you Dennis!

It is now completely cloudy here in Tahoe & I can't see the mountains.. it is trying to spit snow..still kinda warm.

I must admit I got very spoiled with a month of sunny weather and some warmer temps......even got to enjoy my coffee in the sun on the deck it was so warm in the direct sun. In the 20 years we have lived here..we have never had this little of snow in our yard during this time of year.
It sure has been nice having a mild if any winter so far compared to last year

Well, it looks like you will be getting a little snow this weekend or sooner. and yes it has been a very mild winter, but anything can happen in the next few months.
