I don't think they can ask you that specifically. An informed ranger would have to ask questions very carefully to get any information and not break the law. They can ask if you have a disability (not which one), and they can ask what work the dog has been trained to do. I have a TON of opinions on this issue, some of which I'm sure would be controversial here, but for now, I'll just continue exploring all of the dog friendly wilderness we have.
