get out).
From today to the end of this month let's post pictures of our beautiful Sierra lakes only.
I'll start with this picture of Amphitheater Lake as the pic for the day.

The above thread was only meant to last a year or less, but SIX YEARS & OVER 1,100 POSTS LATER it's still going strong. Let's see if we can get a similar thread going for videos. Any takers?

Q&A:
rlown wrote:2 questions actually..
1) can we host videos here or do we post them elsewhere and cross-reference them here?
2) where can I get a good producer and editor :)

I like the Idea. The fishing doctors seem to have this down as do some of those YouTube videos I referenced, as does Vaca Russ. Now we have to learn a new skill.
ERIC wrote:No ability to host here. YouTube and Vimeo are probably the best free hosting options out there. The "media" shortcode button should allow you to embed either one and possibly other options as well.
robow8 wrote:So how do you embed a youtube video?
rlown wrote: First, You put your video up on YouTube or find one you want to share.

Second, You grab the part of the URL to the video highlighted in yellow in that attachment (watch?v=ygSOabmYN0U)

Third, you hit the youtube button on the list above (again highlighted in yellow).

Then between the youtube begin and end tags, you post in the watch?v=ygSOabmYN0U

and you get

fishmonger wrote:too complicated. why not just allow proper iframe posting with html and one can post vimeo and other sites. Youtube is such a turd when it comes to video quality, I refuse to put any files there.

have a look here - this video thread has been going for years, but obviously only because it's not just sierra video: http://www.whitneyzone.com/wz/ubbthread ... s/14490/43

I would suggest if you post a video that you make, you also post what gear you're looking to use (including mounts, extra batteries, time on the trail, etc.) I spent a half hour on the GoPro site today just "checkin it out". Probably what most are using, unless they have a crew. so $400 for the Hero Pro silver and $500 for the Hero Pro black. They look nice, but the mounts add to the cost (as most of us don't where helmets on the trail), as do the batteries and charging strategy.

Guess it depends on the quality one looks for in the finished product. I personally just want the artifact.

I did this video a few years ago and posted in Vimeo. It was done with an Olympus Stylus Tough handheld.

ERIC, note that this embedded link didn't work but the URL does.

Glad you fixed it. So for vimeo links you only include the last part of the link as well. got it. thanks.

back to the camera choice, You can see the difference between that and what other cams do. Not saying that's bad as I did no editing. Editing is probably a personal choice.

I think that the second one I posted was done with a Nikon point and shoot.

Peak Design has a nice attachment which allows me to attach my GoPro to my shoulder strap. Had to find another place for my Canon when shooting video though.

Every year we get close to fall, I watch this. One of these years things will fall into place and I'll be out there after all the resupply places close and the busy trail empties out like during this trip - except I wouldn't go that fast, but bring gear to handle the occasional snow storm. If this year wasn't so dry, it probably be the most likely year for me to work this out, as summer in the mountains isn't going to happen for me in 2015
