Hi all. I've finally finished the last section from Mammoth to Tuolumne. Thanks again for all of the kind words and here's to another amazing summer!

SHR is the #1 thing on my bucket list, and your trip report did not make the wait any easier.

Superlative work.

Your photos and writing are just fantastic...brought me back to my time on the SHR.

I agree with your feeling of disappointment after crossing Blue Lake pass and climbing Foerster. The trip was so open and expansive and then I felt hemmed in once I got into Yosemite (probably a little bit of melancholy that it was nearly over mixed in).

Yeah, snowblind. In all honesty, I feel like the trip was more or less over after that day exploring Upper Twin Island Basin. That day embodied everything that this trip was all about. While the final days weren't ideal, the smoky Bench Canyon day and the rest of it were kind of just our environment's way of letting us know that it was time to go. Funny thing is, while I wish I was on my way back to something other than normal life, I completely understood and accepted it. I saw the signs and they all made perfect sense (this has all been wonderful, but now I'm on my way). We had an understanding and we left on good terms. All in all, it was a perfect end to a perfect trip.

Somehow, I missed this excellent and detailed report when it was posted. I've never seen a better report of Roper's SHR and the photos have to be some of the finest I've ever seen.

I might have to settle down & get comfy for this report from the archives....

Update...I know it's an old post.
But inbetween chasing my 2yo around the garden, pushing him on the bike, cleaning over ripe blood red plum juice
off his face etc etc...
I've just spent an enjoyable lazy Sunday, reading, studying pics & tracking the your route on the various maps Ive downloaded.....and thoroughly enjoyed every minute. Thanks for taking me along. That'll be me someday.
Out 'n about....looking for trout.

Awesome trip report. Great writing and equally impressive photos. Want to finish the trip some day, but old age is creeping up quickly. Thanks for the inspirational story.

And that has made all the difference.
