Ducks in the Backcountry (Crosscountry)

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

haha wow...tell us how you really feel!

I have never or will ever build a cairn, and I have never, or will ever kick one down. I dont have time to get all negative nelly while vibing the natural seritonin flushes released while tramping the mountains :)

I think KICK 'EM DOWN should go into your sig :D
If you don't know where you're going, then any path will get you there.

It never fails to amaze me the weird places I find them. Built with seemingly no purpose at all. I sometimes kick them down but there is something that sort of makes me feel bad about it for some reason. I only value the ones that can be useful such as on a technical climb that has a very narrow route corridor or on an old trail that is hard to follow.

I have built one or two but in the case of needing to mark where I go back off a ridge or something if climbing a peak I might mark it and then kick it down on my way back.

the ducks down star col towards the North were interesting. Most were helpful, until you hit the ledge (no bodies found below that last duck but it was scary). I tend to kick them over, but I always build then next to Mark's tent so he can find his way back. :D
