Panorama Point - State High Point

Post by Vaca Russ »

We recently traveled to the state of my birth to attend a family wedding. “Sport” thought it would be a good idea to take a small detour from our travels to bag “Panorama Point”. This is the high point of the state of Nebraska.

Nebraska’s high point is higher than the city of Denver. It is higher than 30 of the other state’s high points. It is located in western Nebraska near the world Headquarters of a famous sporting goods store.

Panorama Point is located on private property. The place is actually a grazing range for the American Bison. There is an expensive entry fee of $3. :) :D

Kimball County has erected a stone monument on the high point.

“Sport” forgot her harness, helmet, pro and rope but still managed to free climb the high point.

The Highpointers Foundation provided the funding for a bench next to the stand that holds the register.

You can see a herd of bison in the upper right hand corner of the picture.

This bench was dedicated to Hiram Scott.

We saw plenty of the wildlife in Western Nebraska including antelope and herds of the American Bison.

Can you guess what is located behind this fence?

You can find these sites scattered throughout Western Nebraska and Eastern Colorado. They are in active service. Who can guess how many Megatons of explosive power can be found in each one of these silos?

I would recommend not trying to enter these facilities.

Thank you for reading about our highpoint adventure.

You guys might have driven past the the old house my mother grew up in. it is now abandoned and just down the road from a missile silo and just a couple of miles from the high point.
