MAN vs. WILD

Anyone happen to catch the most recent Man v. Wild on Discovery this past week? This was my first time seeing this show. I sometimes catch "Survivorman" but this was not the same program or host. This caught my eye because the location was "Sierra Nevadas". Before I post a line item critique of this mythical presentation, I want to confirm my facts. But, I couldn't wait to post, so please if you caught it, post your thoughts.

I did not watch it. There are better comedy shows available.

I've never heard of this program, but might tune in for a quick laugh, and to see where in the Sierra they filmed the show.

Well I would watch it tonight, but the Grinch 40th Aniversary is on and that is far more important

The folks on SummitPost had quite a belly laugh about the show (apparently taped in close proximity to a road at well known locations, etc.).

I think the Grinch is a better choice too, it would be more of a "reality show" compared to Man vs. Wild.

I recorded the Sierra Nevada episode and plan to watch it this week sometime. I've seen a few Man V. Wild episodes and find them to be entertaining, though nothing spectacular.

I just turned off Man v. Wild and I have no plans to watch another show. I had recorded it earlier this week. It started off as all of his shows do-parachuting into a remote location. Bear Grylls landed in an alpine Sierra Lake and started descending down a granite slope toward a forested valley. He said he had to get into the trees before dark and there were only a few hours of daylight left. All of a sudden, the scenery changed. Bear Grylls was standing next to a river at low elevation. He was surrounded by grey pines and chapparal. He said he had descended two thousand feet below the lake and he had to move quick before darkness. Well, there was no way he could have gone from alpine lake to yucca and poison oak in two thousand feet. Also, the show had started with him descending into a forested valley with no gorge in sight. Obviously, Bear Grylls had been in 2 locations. However, he was claiming that it was all within a few hours on the same day. How dishonest! If I didn't know the Sierra, I'd never know. Suddenly I realized that his other shows i.e. French Alps, Kenya, etc. were probably shams as well. Since I'd never been there, he'd had a blank check. Well, that's not the case any longer. I'm done watching Bear Grylls' Man v. Wild. It's dishonest and phony. What do other people think?

I only watched a few minutes of the show. He was trying to catch a horse to ride, acting as if the horse were wild. The meadow they were in sure looked like one just off of Hwy 50. It was funny when the horse spooked and Bear fell on his ass though.

I agree with rightstar, I don't think I'll be watching Bear again.

I agree rightstar. There were several things he did I thought were not only false, but terrible advice. As you mentioned he was suddenly in the foothills, then back up into the forest. But what I thought was even worse was the suggestionto get into a fast river, not knowing what lies downstream and soaking your clothing. What an idiot! The horse ordeal was pathetic, more lies told. But, the icing on the cake was the Petsmart bunny they planted so he could kill it. I only know of cottontails (which are quite a bit smaller than the fat bastard he came home with) or jack rabbits near the lower elevations. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I have never seen or heard of rabbits like that up in the higher elevations. Then the whole swimming across the lake thing instead of walking around it was pretty stupid too. I guess I am just shocked the Discovery Channel would allow such gross fabrications. A little fudge here and there to make it watchable, maybe, but he was just flat out full of crap. Thanks for your thoughts.

I watched it too and have to agree with what was said. Since I have not hiked the high back country, I was not sure how real it was, but I thought there is some ill advice to decent the granit slope without ropes. Some people might take this for good advice and then fall to their death. Oh yeah the camera man climbed down with him, ha ha ha

When he started to build his float device, the banks looked like the Merced River along Hwy 140.
