McConnell Lakes trail in Desolation Wilderness Area

Post by wanderin.jack »

I'm looking for a little beta on the unmaintained McConnell Lakes trail and Highland Lake trail in Desolation Wilderness Area. I tried to find the McConnell Lake from Leland Lakes a few years ago and couldn't find it. Has anyone walked that lately? Is there a sign for the trail at Camper Flat? Was going to take another shot at it in a few weeks from that direction.

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

Off belay,
Jack

Hi Jack,

Welcome to HST! Have you tried the "search" feature there are some TR's to the area:

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

I was in that area in the late 90's and, most recently, in 2005. So far as I could tell, there are just a few segments of a use trail still visible, so it should be regarded as an off trail route for the purposes of trip planning.
Since my fishing (etc.) website is still down, you can be distracted by geology stuff at: http://www.fresnostate.edu/csm/ees/facu ... ayshi.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I did this loop over July 4th weekend 2014 and found it quite easy to follow. No snow and plenty of ducks.
