Hazardous Sierra Creek Crossings List

Post by maverick »

Fellow Members,

Looking for a list of creek crossings that are difficult in the early to mid season
even in a moderate snow year.

Several of them have been added on the HST Map but I am in the search of more,
especially any from between the Tahoe to Northern Yosemite borderline.

Please list any crossings that you have had personal experience with and list them
here, be specific with the location. Please read previous post to avoid cross posting
rivers/creeks, and check HST Map for the ones already listed.

Thank you,
Maverick

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

Have a safer backcountry experience by using the HST ReConn Form 2.0, named after Larry Conn, a HST member: http://reconn.org

Piute Creek and Cherry Creek out of Crabtree Cabin Trailhead in Emigrant wilderness are always a challenge early in the season...but by now they should be manageable in this low snow year...

I just got back from a 3 night trip (June 19=22) in to Vidette Meadow via Onion Valley/Kearsarge Pass and spent 3 days fishing up and down Vidette Creek. Going south towards Forester Pass we were able to easily cross (and make it to Shorty's Cabin) without getting our feet wet. Going north I can unfortunately say that I was able to rock-hop across the stream all to easy from one side to the other. Even the Falls below the Vidette Meadow campsite, while impressive, were not as violent as in years past.
