2014 Sierra Hike

Post by RoguePhotonic »

Well finally heading out tomorrow for Reds Meadow to begin a week with the trail crew and hike out from there! It's been mixed the last couple of weeks. Instead of being excited that I was leaving soon there was serious doubt whether my uncle was going to pay me any of the large amount of money he owed me and I may have had to delay for an unknown amount of time. On Monday he came through with at least enough to round up the last minute gear and be able to get on my way.

My final itinerary is below. This year I decided to go lighter weight and not bring the 5D2. Instead I will go with the G1X again. Also decided to go more luxury on my tent this year. I'm bringing a Big Agnes Copper Spur UL2. Even though it comes in at 3lb 2 ounces it still is less weight then my tripod I had last year and the Hexamid together. I'm excited to have free standing again and a more bomb proof rain shelter.

My final list of peaks to climb are:

Gemini
Turret
Senger
Seven Gables
Julius Caesar
Hilgard
Gabb
Mcgee (maybe)
Scylla (maybe)
Ragged Spur
Woodworth
Wheel
Peak 11,960 (near Island Bird Lake)
Munger (maybe)
Farquhar
Silliman
Triple Divide
Red Kaweah
Black Kaweah
Eagle Scout
Lippincott
Midway
Centennial
Milestone
Table
Kern Point
Sawtooth

Have a good summer! Maybe I will see some of you on the trail!

Have a fun and safe adventure Rogue! By the way, are using the same boots (Zamberlan
I think) for this hike, or something else?

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

Yep I have a fresh pair of Zamberlan Vioz GT boots to wear. They treat me well.

Yo Rogue, you'll have around 26 days under your belt already, plenty of time to get
your mountain fitness up to a very high level, so speed hiking from Blayney to Wallace
for the HST Meet-up and back shouldn't be a problem, expect to see you there. ;)

2014 Sierra Hike

It looks like we won't overlap at triple divide per your earlier itinerary but we might in Kaweah. I'll be up that way the week of Sept. 13-20. Have a safe summer.

I love my Big Agnes Copper Spur UL2! For the weight, it has luxurious room for one person. I used it on a week long trip in Colorado last year and there were big thunderstorms every day. It was solid. I hope you have another good summer in the High Sierra and safe travels!

I bought the Copper Spur UL1 first but it's just too small. My head and feet touch the ends and there is hardly any room for gear but this one is much better.

I hope I can make it through this year without any major injuries! After two years of bad injuries I'm probably due for a break!
