Mid/late June temperatures near Tuolumne
I think I am going to shoot for a backpacking trip to Young Lakes June 18-22. What would the night time temperatures be for that time? I have a 20 degree bag. Will that be sufficient? Thanks.

If it's a good 20 degree bag, you're fine. If it's inaccurately rated, and the temps go below whatever the actual limit of the bag is, you might be cold, but most of the summer temps run 30-40F depending on weather and sometimes as low as 25 again depending on weather... assuming you will have clothes, and maybe things like a hat and gloves, and perhaps a jacket you could put on as a last resort? You'll probably be ok.

If you have to dress up to sleep, other than the hat (i'm bald), you have a bag problem.
elduderino260, have you used the bag before and will you be in a tent?
Oh. forgot. Welcome to the forum elduderino260!!

Yep. But we don't know if he has an accurately rated bag, and apparently neither does he. You'd be surprised how many people never think of wearing their jacket and just shiver all night.rlown wrote:If you have to dress up to sleep, other than the hat (i'm bald), you have a bag problem.

Hi Elduderino260,
Welcome to HST! Your 20F bag should be fine, check out the weather forecast as you
get closer. Mosquitoes will be a bigger issue by then, so be prepared for those blood
suckers. Check the "2014 Mosquito Report" thread to get an idea on what to expect.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

Will do. I do ecological research in the rainforests of Central America, so I am well prepared for the mossies (it's the chiggers I worry about when I'm down there)...maverick wrote:Hi Elduderino260,
